Sun and Rain? No fear! Snow is on it's way . . .

Sometimes one can't help but feel like they are the victim of a cosmic prankster.

I announce a promotion involving snow . . . at it rains for days and then the sun emerges to melt the city down to pavement. Old coffee cups and peices of last falls garbage are taunting me.

Fear not. There is snow in the forcast. It will snow again. And again and again before winter releases it's grip.

In the meantime I am headed into the woods to find the snow the sun can't reach . . .

Snowglobes!!

Winter in Newfoundland can seem to go on and on. We often search for new and interesting ways to pass the dreary days. One day I was out and about with my kids and I found a fun and quirky way to make some great winter portraits. Using my Holga (a toy camera) equipped with its fisheye lens I found the resulting winter scenes reminded me of snowglobes. What fun! Delighted with myself I sought out a few other kids and I am officially hooked.

I have decided to spend the rest of this winter offering a Snowglobe package. I want to bundle your kids up and take them out in the snow! That might mean a dive in a fresh snow bank, maybe a stroll down a wintery lane, or a simple portrait at home . . . possibilities are endless. Well not endless . . . we need snow. Luckily for this promotion we have weeks and weeks of that left.

From now until the snow ends I will be offering the following Snowglobe package: One session in the snow, the 5" proofs, and a framed 11" custom print for the total price of $500.00. This is a special price that includes the proofs (not something usually offered) and a saving on framing.

Snowglobes can also be added on to a regular session for $250. This means a session in your home, with your child’s toys and pets and family, followed by a romp in the snow outside. The 11" framed portrait and the Snowglobe proofs are included, with other enlargements a la carte.

These sessions are very limited, and will only be offered until the spaces fill up. At this time I am only booking Snowglobe sessions until the end of March . . . I am optimistic that we will run out of snow after that . . . fingers crossed!

Latest Cameras

So I am a mega fan of the White Stripes. I am also a mega fan of the Holga camera. So imagine my delight when the White Stripes put out a limited edition Holga! I had to have one and indeed did get one for myself (from the family *wink* ) for Christmas. They put out two cameras actually: The *Jack* Holga with a fisheye lens (which is what I knew I would get under my tree) and they also put out a *Meg* Diana+ camera with ringflash which is another plastic fantastic camera that I was surprised to find also for me Christmas morning. I am a lucky gal. In fact there was only 3000 produced and I have two . . . lucky indeed.

So here are some test shots from those first few rolls.

First the Diana . . . images sort of hazy . . . dream-like . . . like vaseline on a holga lens . . . I have to take it outside and see how it treats the corners in the bright daylight.




And the fisheye + ringflash combo for the holga . . . I took *meg's* ringflash and gave it to *jack*. It is it's own quirky look . . . amuses me . . . round image.





and for comparison sake here is a non-fisheye holga image taken the same time. I was about 4 feet further back to try and get the heads a similar size in both images for the sake of the test.

New year, renewed blogger

After a little back and forth with myself, I've decided to dedicate myself to a minimum of 5 new blog posts a week. This is slightly more realistic than, say, everyday.

Fact is, I enjoy sharing my thoughts and images in this forum. The trouble is the ever present gargoyle called self doubt that sits upon my shoulder and whispers in my ear that I would be remiss in thinking I had a point of view of interest. Thankfully I got a cute red and white gargoyle beater for Christmas and after breaking it out of the box it is doing it's thing and keeping that insipid creature at bay for now.

Here a couple of cute pictures of my little guy that just turned the big 0-1. Colour photos because, well, sometimes he needs it.

Order and Disarray

So I loved this fireplace but the light was a bit harsh on that side of the room. None-the-less I used it a bit . . . moved a big screen and ottoman they had there to protect the thing from the young’uns (there were two under two).

The little guy was all excited to line up his guys. I am happily letting him (parents are in another room). We are having a good time.

Well then I find out that all his guys are now covered in black soot.

Whoops. ;)

So I have been living in the darkroom as I hurry to get all client stuff printed and framed before Xmas. I am very happy with everything I am doing in there, which is nice. That said, I am getting blurry eyed from that little red light . . .

So what do I do to take my mind off printing client pictures . . . scan my own pictures. That I guess is a sign that you love what you do . . .

Here is someHp5 at 25000. Dev for 40 min at 30 degrees in stock d-76. I have been experimenting with pushing the limits of Holga indoors . . . the grain has nowhere to hide but that was to be expected . .
