Nfld Herald - St. John's Newfoundland Photographer
Yesterday at the grocery store I flipped through the Mother's Day edition of the Nfld Herald and noticed they used three of my photos and gave me 1/2 page of text in the Arts and Letters story. Next time you are buying groceries you should check it out. :)

New Website Promo - St. John's Newfoundland Photographer
I have a new website! After many years with the same website I figured it was about time to freshen things up. I wanted something similar to the feel of my old site, but new. Thanks to Graham Blair for all his hard work!
Check it out! www.donnaramsay.com
To celebrate the new website I am offering a free 11x14 to all sessions booked through the website. Go to the site, click my e-mail and book a session. The $350 handcrafted fibre print is yours.
All good things must end. This offer end 2012/06/12.

Arts and Letters - St. John's Newfoundland Photographer
Today at The Rooms Provincial Art Gallery is the start of the exhibit for the annual Arts and Letters competition.
You should go.
While there you will see wonderful artwork by many wonderful local artists.
You will also see my winning piece. It makes win #3 for me (2005, 2008, 2012). That's a hat-trick!
This is called: Dress Up. Go see the print.

Roller Skates + Very Pregnant = Awesome. St. John's Newfoundland Photographer
One day on Facebook a photographer friend of mine named Trish posted an iPhone picture of her kid in roller skates. The picture was so fun and I instantly thought - I NEED A MATERNITY IN ROLLER SKATES!!
Okay well persuading a pregnant lady to wear roller skates is no small feat . . . enter super fun Kim. She was game so we set out to find the flattest alley in town and do my version of roller skates. She is a beautiful pregnant woman and she rocked the roller skates. Thanks Kim!
p.s. She is going to pop this baby out any minute now. Maybe she will let me put the baby in roller skates too?
First one is a nod to Gracie.
A couple of Holga shots:
My favourite and then the rest.

Then they had a baby! St John's Newfoundland photographer
Baby Samuel was born and turned his parents to total mush. It was adorable.
We did Holga roll as well. Holga flash indoors gives a very 50's snapshot vibe that is fun.

Holga on Signal Hill - St. John's Newfoundland photographer
When mom called to book the session I was excited because she asked for my favourite - Holga maternity on Signal Hill. So that's what we did!
Reminder: Holga is a toy plastic camera that uses 120 film. It has a cheap lens, useless buttons and the back can pop off anytime. I have been using this for many years and have collected a few dozen since each one has it's own unique set of flaws that I harness to create beautiful, dreamy, vintage looking photos. It's everything instagram tries to be. :D The difference is that Holga gives you 12 shots and most don't turn out. It's instagram without a net. It's the real deal. It is my favourite camera in the world.
My favourite camera in my favourite place . . . what's not to love?
We din't only do Holga. We did a few others.

April Showers bring May Flowers.
Good morning readers. Today is the day I kick this thing into high gear.
The past few months have been difficult on a personal level and they have taken their toll on me. I happen to be a person who does not find inspiration in sadness and as a result my photography had taken a back seat to my drama. Enough of that. I have the drama under control and I can, pardon the pun, see the light. I feel an enormous sense of relief and I am happier than ever. With happiness comes that full as a tick feeling that creative people get just before they work their asses off creating.
I'm back. I'm ready to see all your babies and bellies and kids and critters. I'm ready to see the joy in the little moments and find the soul int their faces. I'm ready. My new darkroom has been an amazing place for me to be and I am ready to continue to develop new film and print new photographs. I'm ready to be in there so much that I'll have the stench of fixer permeate my clothes and the stain of selenium under my fingernails.
Today I will begin the long process of scanning and updating. By the end of the week you will see a new website and new photos. You will also see my latest winning entry into the NL & Lab Arts and Letters Awards (that's the third win, for those keeping track).
I can't wait.
